Inauguration of SEA-EU 2.0 with a Rectors’ Solemn Ceremony

The European Alliance SEA-EU (Universities of the Seas) Kick-Off Meeting has taken place in Cadiz from 7th to 10th February.

The event is the official start of the second phase of the Alliance (SEA- EU 2.0), which gathers not only the University of Naples “Parthenope” but also the University of Cadiz (UCA, the leading one), Brest (UBO), Gdansk (UG), Kiel (CAU), Bodo (UNORD), Split (UNIST), Malta (UM), Algarve (UAlg).

The delegation of the University of Naples “Parthenope” that joined the meeting has been led by the Rector, Prof. Antonio Garofalo, and Professors: Marco Ariola, Giorgio Budillon, Vito Pascazio, Marcello Risitano, Gabriele Sampagnaro, Enrico Zambianchi, Doct. Giovanna Apice and 2 members of the Student Council (L.Chianese and R.Serafino).

Many other numerous deputations of each member university have attended this event to discuss about the progress of the work done up to now and to manage all future deadlines of the Alliance’s activities, in which “Parthenope” is widely engaged. On this occasion, brand new groups of stakeholders have started their meetings with the participation of port authorities and town council representatives of the 9 cities involved in this prestigious Alliance.

A small delegation of the SEA-EU Alliance has also officialized their upcoming visit to Naples on the 27th and 28th of February.

At the end of the Governing Board meeting, which brings together the Rectors of the 9 member universities every semester, a solemn ritual of installation has been celebrated in the historic seat of the Salón de Grados de la Facultad de Medicina.

During this ceremony, in which Rectors are formally endowed with powers and responsibilities of office, our Rector Garofalo has given a speech focused on the fundamental values of the Alliance and on the importance of a shared vision of the University of the future. The ceremony ended with the solemn hymn of the Alliance covenant.

The participation of the University of Naples “Parthenope” in the Alliance is clear evidence, also on the international field, of the historical and well-planted roots that deeply connect it to the maritime field and transportation. From a strategic point of view by joining the Alliance,” Parthenope ”confirms to be in accordance with the political-institutional orientation guidelines laid down by the MUR recently; indeed as per one of its statements on internationalization, the focus is on 2 main goals: the institutional focus on European universities alliances and the support to those European initiatives, such as the creation of a European Degree Label, aimed at removing existing barriers that prevent students from the recognition of foreign qualifications.
