Learning Outocomes

The first and second year courses allow students to gain in-depth knowledge of the structure and functioning of complex economic systems, business reality and accounting. Students also acquire the mathematical and statistical tools necessary for the analytical study of economic and business subjects (basic knowledge of mathematics, elements of formalisation and evaluation of financial contracts, analytical tools necessary for the collection and analysis of statistical data) as well as mastery of the fundamentals of the legal system (public, private, commercial).

In addition to this knowledge, students consolidate their language skills (English or French) and IT skills.

In the third year, the three curricula allow students to focus their training on specific objectives:

Economics curriculum: the functioning of monetary and financial markets, the management and operational logic of the various business areas of banks and other specialised intermediaries; international trade, with a focus on international trade policies and dynamics. The training programme is enriched by the acquisition of both geographical knowledge of the main socio-economic dynamics and specific skills in the field of labour economics and applied economic policy issues.

Environment and Sustainability curriculum: the relationship between environmental protection, resource use and sustainable development and related policies. In particular, in-depth knowledge is provided on topics such as: climate change and climate agreements; the economic implications of energy choices, market functioning and policies; the sustainability of food models and the agro-industrial system.

Professional curriculum: the study of rules and methodologies for the evaluation, representation and control of budget items according to national accounting principles. The track is enriched by knowledge of organisational structures and processes; innovative forms of financial instruments to support business growth; and the dynamics of the four main social policies (pensions, labour, health and welfare).

The courses, the teaching approach and the internship or substitute activities allow students to apply specific knowledge and skills to understand and identify solutions to economic, managerial and financial problems.

The teaching approach of the programme provides for classroom lessons to be accompanied, depending on the specific nature of the various subject areas, by exercises, case studies, preparation and/or presentation of assignments (individual or group), and classroom discussion of current issues. Overall, this approach stimulates students’ ability to gain an in-depth understanding of the various subject areas, apply the skills they have acquired and find solutions to concrete problems, including:

  • solving economic problems (market outcomes, effectiveness of monetary and fiscal policies) using simplified real life models ;
  • analysing and evaluating the multidimensional aspects of sustainability: economic, social, environmental and institutional;
  • evaluating strategic governance and operational objectives and schemes of a company;
  • preparing accounting records and financial statements;
  • assessing the formal and substantive accuracy of financial statements;
  • assessing the economic and financial balance of actors in the financial system.

The above skills are enriched by legal expertise: appropriate legal language; the ability to relate the structure and functioning of national institutions to the European socio-economic reality; the ability to understand, interpret and apply rules to the specific contexts in which they operate. Furthermore, where necessary, students will be able to apply the mathematical tools necessary for the analytical study of economic and business subjects; apply descriptive and inferential statistical methodology to support business decisions (in various functional areas) and to analyse key economic dynamics; apply financial calculation formulas to the evaluation of contracts
