The international PhD Course in “Euro(pean) Languages ​​and Specialized Terminologies” aims to highlight, from an interdisciplinary perspective, the role played by some European languages (English, French and Spanish) and by their specialized terminologies in the fields of law and economy, sociology, maths and finance as well as in the agricultural-food sector, with particular reference to the technical vocabulary pertaining to each subject.
The main interest of the PhD Course is the study of terminology not only as a tool used by experts from different disciplines, but first and foremost as a linguistic heritage shared by speakers; in this context, the use of new technologies can be deemed as fundamental in spreading specialist knowledge.
Among the activities undertaken in the PhD Course, preeminence is given to the management of linguistic data obtained through the analysis of primary sources in L2 and L1 by consulted experts and/or retrieved online, in order to create databases, manage translation memories and study the textual corpora thus built. European institutions, public administration, private companies, publishing houses, media, and translation and language services can, indeed, all provide terminological training, and, in their turn, benefit from the collaboration between terminologists and experts.
Given its interdisciplinary approach, the PhD Course aims to combine the acquisition of language skills with interdisciplinary in-depth knowledge.

The PhD Course, in collaboration with companies and organizations involved in the training project, provides doctoral students with the tools necessary to deal with relevant issues in an increasingly international job market.
While aiming at educating future academics and teachers, the PhD Course also train experts in specialized communication and terminology that can find employment in diverse fields: journalism (broadcast and online) and the publishing industry, where linguistic and lexicological expertise is required, together with multilingual proficiency, and the IT sector, which offers career opportunities concerning the management and treatment of linguistic databases as well as other activities related to corpus linguistics. After completing their PhD, students can also be employed as, among others, cultural mediators, specialized translators, technical communicators, experts in lexicology, terminology and intercultural communication, and terminologists working for national and international companies and institutions.
