Overview

The Fashion, Art and Food Management Master’s course is innovative and unique in Italy and worldwide. It is taught entirely in English.

It focuses on sectors of quality Italian manufacturing, studying them across the board, identifying similarities in competitive methods and critical success factors, mutual sources of inspiration and influences, and significant potential synergies.

The course  trains entrepreneurs, administrators, managers and consultants responsible for strategic and operational processes in companies operating in the fashion, art and food sectors and in related sectors, including tourism, as well as in any business strongly oriented towards creativity, innovation, quality and internationalisation.

Expected Skills

Graduates in Fashion, Art and Food Management develop highly specialized expertise 

valuable to work in companies operating in fashion, art and high value-added businesses of the agri-food industry and will gain awareness about contaminations, conditionings and synergies among Fashion, Art and Food.

 

The modules will include several subjects such as business, management, economics, statistics, and law fields related to strategic management, economics of innovation, industrial policies, organization, brand promotion, digital marketing, business data analyis, corporate finance, performance measurement, operations and quality audit, international business law, business history on the key issues of fashion, art and food.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the programme, graduates will have acquired a comprehensive set of specialist post-graduate skills that qualify them as experts, either in-house (managers and administrators) or external (consultants) to companies operating in the fashion, art and agri-food industries. This knowledge integrates the contributions and analytical profiles of economic, business, legal, macro- and micro-economic, and statistical-mathematical subjects.

As far as the expected outcome at the end of the programme is concerned, graduates will:

  • be able to analyse sectors, markets and economic systems;
  • be able to formulate and implement the most appropriate business models;
  • be able to manage and harmonise creative and managerial processes;
  • be able to launch and enhance brands, also by exploiting the opportunities offered by digital transformation;
  • be able to oversee and control quality and operational processes;
  • have acquired skills and abilities to understand business performance from both a prospective and retrospective perspective;
  • will have acquired the ability to identify the most suitable organisational relationships to support business strategies, including in the form of networks and through the organisation of events;
  • will have acquired the background for statistical data analysis for business management;
  • will have acquired knowledge and skills to understand the measures adopted at state policy level to support tourism and companies operating in the fashion, art and food sectors;
  • will have acquired knowledge and understanding useful for the drafting of commercial contracts.

The expected results are achieved through lectures, supplemented by exercises and case studies, testimonials from professionals and experts, and the organisation of study trips to stimulate students’ ability to develop original management models tailored to companies in the fashion, art and food sectors.

 Students are also supported in their learning process by the opportunity to use tools such as e-learning platforms for constant interaction with instructors and for obtaining materials and participating in discussions, including virtually, through the use of “forums”, or if they are unable to attend lessons.

Particular attention is paid to assessing the knowledge and skills acquired during the course through a final exam, which includes a thesis and its discussion with a supervisor and co-supervisor.

At the end of the course, graduates are able to apply the knowledge acquired to real-life professional and business situations. To this end, the training programme broadens and specialises the basic and specific knowledge and understanding of content already acquired in the first three-year cycle of studies, developing a solid and broad cultural background and technical knowledge, capable of supporting the company’s management from within or outside the company in decisions and operations concerning, in particular:

  • the definition and strategic positioning of the business model;
  • the selection and assessment of business performance indicators;
  • the interpretation of data to support business decisions;
  • the development and management of business networks;
  • the organisation and management of tourist and cultural events;
  • the marketing of products and services through digital technology;
  • the analysis and design of business processes;
  • quality control and operational processes;
  • identifying and selecting the most appropriate measures adopted at state policy level to support tourism and companies operating in the fashion, art and food sectors;
  • integrating business and legal issues into commercial contracts.

Admission requirements

The Master’s Degree programme is open to all applicants.

To be admitted, students must hold a degree in L-18 Economics and Business Management, or another degree obtained abroad and recognised as equivalent. Admission is also open to graduates in other fields, based on the curricular requirements set out in the programme’s Teaching Regulations.

The curricular requirements are:

  1. statistical-mathematical subjects, for at least 12 CFU;
  2. economic subjects, for at least 12 CFU;
  3. business subjects, for at least 27 CFU;
  4. legal subjects, for at least 12 CFU.

For qualifications issued in Italy, the curricular requirements refer to the possession of a three-year degree and are applicable to graduates from any university. For qualifications not issued in Italy, the requirements are verified through assessment in terms of duration, credits acquired and subject content. In any case, the qualification issued abroad must allow enrolment in second-cycle courses in the country of reference of the system in which it was issued.

Basic knowledge of written and spoken English at a level of at least B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) or equivalent is required, demonstrated through:

  • possession of a university degree (or high school diploma) relating to a programme taught in English;

language proficiency certificate


Internships and placement

The degree programme will appoint a placement coordinator who, in collaboration with the programme coordinator, will develop specific internship and work experience opportunities in the fashion, art, food and tourism sectors. The placement coordinator will also organise seminars, meetings and study trips with leading companies and consultancies in the market to promote placement opportunities for students.


Final exam

The final exam is worth 15 credits. It involves the preparation and discussion of a thesis, either theoretical or applied, on topics characteristic of the degree programme.

The thesis represents the moment when the student’s achievement of adequate skills is assessed. The student must demonstrate their ability to address, analyse and solve real problems in all their complexity, critically applying the knowledge acquired during their studies and any experience gained during internships at companies or institutions.

The graduate will be supervised and supported by a supervisor and a co-supervisor from the degree programme, who will report on the work carried out during the public presentation and discussion of the thesis, which the candidate will carry out in front of a committee of lecturers in the subject or related subjects, for the verification and assessment.

The thesis, which is normally divided into a first part that is mainly theoretical (analysis of literature, formulation of research hypotheses, systematisation of topics) and a second part that is more practical (empirical verification of research hypotheses, analysis of business cases, administration of questionnaires, online research), is assessed with a score within parameters defined by the teaching regulations and guidelines for master’s degree theses, aimed at rewarding career advancement and study and internship experiences abroad, taking into account the average of the exams taken, the originality of the thesis, the candidate’s presentation skills and the maturity achieved.
